Preview from Pookey The Mousepig The Backyard Rainforest (2nd in series)

A refreshing breeze that purrs through your hair on a hot summer's day is perfectly reviving. The sun beamed down on Mia and Pookey as they played in the backyard, like a proud parent. Mia's mother was blowing up a paddling pool for her to keep cool. Mia was wearing a bright pink dress (as usual) and had greasy sun screen smudged over her cheeks and nose. Mia insisted Pookey have some on too, as she didn't want him turning extra pink in the heat of the sun. She noticed the last time they played in the sun for too long, that he started to smell like bacon.
Mia's prized possessions were her bag of animal figurines. She loved playing with them in the garden, pretending they were running free on the grass. Mia's mother had blown up the paddling pool, with difficulty I might add. When she had finished huffing and puffing, she started filling it up with the garden hose. Mia chuckled out loud as her mother fought with the hose as though it was a giant python from the rainforest. Water splashed everywhere, causing soggy puddles all over the lawn. Mia stood in the puddles and squelched the mud between her toes, it was great fun. While the paddling pool was filling up, the two friends decided to have a little fun. Mouse sized Pookey had a mischievous look in his eyes.
"Time for some magic," Pookey said.
Mia raised an eyebrow and turned to look at him,
"What do you mean?" wondered Mia.
"Let's go riding on the zebra," Pookey said endearingly.
Mia still hadn't got used to the idea that anything she could imagine was achievable. Pookey's tail was most definitely magic, and she had had some extraordinary adventures because of it. The idea of riding around the lawn on zebra back was certainly appealing. Riding around the lawn on the back of a zebra, certainly was fun. The black and white striped zebra ambled through the long blades of grass and jumped over pebbles, which due to Mia's size were now like boulders. The zebra was a striking animal. Its mane was like a stiff sweeping brush and it ran from the top of his head to his shoulders. His pointy ears were nestled either side of his mane and twitched as he ran. The strong black stripes that stretched along his muscular body, looked like the blades of grass above their heads were casting bold shadows upon him. His hooves made a delightful rhythm on the ground as he gracefully sauntered.
Overhead, the grass was as tall as the trees. Big beads of water from the grass like baubles on a Christmas tree. The dappled sun light glistened through the droplets of water and made the ground shimmer. As they trotted along the ground, Mia's eyes were fixed in front scanning the lofty grass facing her. All of a sudden, an enormous lengthy shape started to appear. Unsure of what it was they edged closer. The zebra startled.
Mia and Pookey climbed down from the zebra's back and tried to reassure him. As they got closer, the object seemed to resemble a snake. The zebra bolted and the sound of his hooves echoed in the distance as he darted off. Mia was a bright girl, and she knew to approach with caution. She wasn't very tall at the moment, probably as small as a woodlouse. She knew a large snake would gobble her up whole as soon as he set eyes on her. The snake didn't look like it was moving. Quietly Pookey and Mia tip-toed closer still. Suddenly they heard a rustle in the canopy above. "What's that?" whispered Mia worryingly. "I-I-I don't know?" Pookey muttered. They didn't feel as safe without the brawny zebra to hide behind. The sound was coming directly in front of them now. "Maybe if we don't move, the snake won't see us," Mia hoped. The sound grew louder, the snake was moving, or at least some of it was. .....
